The Mala's legacy
From six bottles a day to India's fruit beverage pioneer.
In 1958, a 20-year-old entrepreneur named Mr. Taiyab Mala began making just six bottles of fruit jam a day from his home to support his family. What started as a modest endeavor in the fruit-growing hill station of Panchgani (Maharashtra) steadily grew into one of India's most trusted processed fruit brands.
Driven by a vision to capture the authentic taste of nature, Mr. Mala set up his first micro-factory with just three stoves in 1961. By 1989, Mala's changed the beverage landscape by introducing the first "Fruit Crush" category to the Indian market, an innovation so new that the local Food and Drug authorities had to update their official manuals to recognize it.
Today, Mala's processes over 7,500 tonnes of fruit every month. Despite this scale, it remains a family-driven enterprise, now managed by the next generation, Mufaddal and Murtaza Mala, and is still committed to the sincerity, quality and community support that started with those first six bottles.
